We work hard daily on our reading comprehension skills and fluency.
We will complete the first Reading Test together to remind them of the process, but students will be completing reading tests on their own. We did a lot of practice with writing complete sentences and complete thoughts last year.
We will also do Workshop time on Thursdays. We will have four centers. One is Decodable Stories (mini stories related to our story that week), Intervention Stories (1 page short stories related to our story that week, we also find important vocabulary in these stories), a hands-on/or art craft and then listening to the story. We also will have smaller groups once a week with a specific focus. The students really seemed to enjoy Workshop last year! :-)
Monday - We listen to the story, do a look though, Workbook Activities.
Tuesday - We read the first half of the story as a group.
Wednesday - We read the second half of the story as a group.
Thursday - We read the story with a buddy/small group/independently. We complete a review for the test.
Friday - We listen to the story again before we take our test!
We have discussions and do activities everyday with our story. We will discuss and write down the Elements of a Story (characters, setting, problems/conflicts, solutions) as well as High Frequency Words.
Our tests have comprehension questions that are multiple choice and fill in the blank questions, questions over grammar, writing questions.
